Paul Leonard-Morgan releases a debut album called Filmtales, and it’s really tales what he's trying to tell us. Everything from his unique way of creating sounds, through to images.
Paul Leonard-Morgan is a name that you probably don't instantly think of when you are thinking of a soundtrack for a film, however it is a name that you should consider to start memorising.
He won a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Award) as the Best New Composer in 2000, was nominated for an Ivor Novello award, and has already worked with names such as Snow Patrol that don't need any introduction and Craig Armstrong, the composer of Moulin Rouge.
He's also going to have the honour of composing the U.S. Olympic team anthem for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Now he as a debut album called Film Tales that in a way tries to create environments for movies - and he certainly does just that.
With each one of the 11 tracks on this C.D. he confirms his major talent to create a soundtracks that will stay in your head every time you remember the film in question.
He’s put together a very consistent CD with sounds that can take you into a western movie, a film from the 1970’s or even an indie-independent movie in one fell swoop.
All For You featuring Esther O'Connor is one of the big examples of this capacity. This track could perfectly feature in a series like U.S. medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, whilst Bullet Through The Head with its strong bass lines and a funky would fit perfectly in a suspense movie from the 70's.
Elektra, with its smooth electro-techno line at the beginning and then the strong strings is more suited to a drama-suspense film, as you can imagine suffering, pain and then death at the end of the score, but more importantly, peace.
Morgan has here a great debut album.
