Ross Robinson has produced albums for the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Machine Head, At The Drive-In, and The Cure, clearly establishing himself as one of the most sought after record producers in the world.
He is currently holed up in the studio in Bellingham, Washington recording the new Idiot Pilot album: “They’ve been my biggest challenge to work with. Mike Harris (lead vocalist), I love him!” he says.
Ross got into the music business as a guitarist in a heavy metal band, where he gained experience of working in the studio and soon found that he had a natural talent for it. His first attempt at producing an album was in 1994 with then up and coming band Korn:
The album was an incredible success and Ross insists Korn are still the band he’s most proud of working with: “We worked hard for two and a half years and they stuck by my side and gave me the chance of my life.”
Would he ever consider a return to playing in a band? “I’ll never play, I get to be in every band I work with,” he says. In 2004 he completed a life long ambition - working with The Cure: “There’s no one else I dream about working with now. I was a member of The fucking Cure for six months!”
Robinson has a knack for capturing the right sound for the band he is working with. He explains: “I give them their vision not mine. We try every idea - they’ll be at their best with that trust.”
He admits that he’s always on the look out for new talent he’s soon working with Drop Dead, Gorgeous after hearing them on MySpace: “I’m looking forward to it. I found them by chance on a kid’s page.” |
