I went to interview these guys before the gig, and at first glance they didn’t seem to look like your average punk band.
No mohawks in sight, the only thing that gave it away was Twitch’s multicoloured hair and red tartan bondage trousers.
The Nottingham-based quirky trio, named Peanut (drums), Twitch (bass) and frontman Zero (synth, guitar, vocals), have been together for two years and are making a name for themselves with upcoming gigs in New York, Japan, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, and Prague.
So, who are your influences?
Zero: Adam and the Ants definitely!
Twitch: For me, it would be not so punk. Bands like Garbage, Nirvana, Duran Duran, that kind of thing.
Peanut: I love Stewart Copeland, the drummer from The Police. He’s definitely influenced me.
Is being in a band something you’ve always wanted to do or did you just decide one day?
Zero: Well when I was 10 years old I played my first show so it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. I’m a self-taught guitarist because lessons can bog you down and make your music unoriginal. Scales are for fish. Saying that, I’m a guitar teacher myself. (Laughs)
Twitch: Zero writes the songs, and then three takes and we have it. We don’t read music; we just make it up as we go along. Each time we play a song it’s usually different to the time before.
What’s your dream for the band at the moment?
Zero: We want to support Kasabian!
Twitch: Yeah, we want to support Kasabian.
