Kate Nash
@ Dot To Dot Festival

The Dot to Dot festival happens every year in the growing city of Nottingham that already has so much history where music’s concerned.

Rock City boasts a massive line of diverse bands and artists ranging back from the likes of Slipknot, Nirvana and R.E.M, with the DTD festival focusing on many either unsigned or up and coming acts from many different genres.

Even amongst all these different acts, it’s a mystery of how the young Kate Nash manages to the look the most individual person to grace the sweaty stage.

If you haven’t heard Kate Nash then you need to. Or if you have heard her and immediately cast her off as a Lilly Allen second time around then you definitely need a re-think.

With her street-smart attitude, individual vintage dress sense, vocals and lyrics that just make you think of London suburbia, this girl has much in front of her. Kate appears on stage with grace and a slight nervousness about her that’s shaken off as soon as she taps the keyboard and launches into her brand of gritty acoustic/pop.

She makes drum movements with her hands in pure enthusiasm of her own music. With such a small band consisting of a drummer, second guitarist and Ms. Nash filling in the duties of keyboard, guitar and vocals its amazing as to how she still makes a loud room filled with 2000 people seem quiet for half an hour.

Foundations is met with great enthusiasm by the crowd, sounding like a pop song, but with real and dirty lyrics that sum up a bad boyfriend. Whereas Caroline’s A Victim sounds like a hip hop rendering of…well... a victim called Caroline.

Kate Nash is probably the quietest of acts this afternoon, but she still sounds the loudest and will make a lasting impression on any doubtfuls with her story telling lyrics and Blondie like appearance and feminine character.

With so many acts trying to look as individual as possible, you realize how Kate Nash manages to do it the best…She’s just herself.
