Pull Tiger Tail
@ Wolverhampton Little Civic

With the much larger Civic Hall next door, the Little Civic seems like nothing more than a large pub.

Pull Tiger Tail (PTT) are a band who are on the up in the British Music scene. The alt/indie/pop band from London have just released their new Single Hurricanes to an awaiting public and have several festival appearances to look forward to.

The question remains though; how is a band with such exciting prospects going to sound in a venue built for local pub bands?

Support bands This Is Sprit and To My Boy make for an interesting mish-mash of music before the headliners grace the stage. Even before the first support band materializes the room feels like nothing short of a sauna.

This Is Spirit seem like an unlikely band to support PTT, with their cheerful, country like brand of Primal Scream alt rock, they sound like a support band worthy of the Pogues.

To Me Boy really do their best to impress and make for a perfect support band before the headliners. Their unique brand of electro/metal/rock wows the crowd as the duo use the stage as a stomping performance ground, whilst tearing up the venue with guitars, drum machines and synthesisers.

Finally it’s time for the headliners Pull Tiger Tail to grace the hot and sweaty stage which, by now must feel like it’s next to the sun. They begin the set with what seems like a slow start. But as the band really gets into it and their confidence grows you realise they’re saving the best for last.

Charging through a short but sweet set, their brand of hardcore pop will dispel any talk of them being just another indie write-off.

The audience meets new single Hurricanes with great enthusiasm; Loki sounds like some intense religious rambling met with the sounds of Bloc Party and Silverchair, whilst Animator reveals the bands pop sound and is probably their strongest song live.

The audience throw themselves around and clap frantically to the infectious drum beats and make the floor feel like an earthquake is nearby. The bands on-stage antics and quirky student humour show a group with great live potential that really do deserve more than the Wolverhampton Little Civic.

With Festival appearances looming, maybe they will get their chance to prove what they can really do in the right environment. By making their music as big as possible and adapting, they make this little venue seem like the main stage at Reading.
