In no more than 25 words, explain what makes you different to what’s out there already…
“Searing sonic destruction coupled with melodic vocals, anthemic choruses, a damn fine live show and a lot of free badges.”
It’s a wet and windy Tuesday evening in February and you’re on tour. Why should people venture out to come see you?
“Because live music is important. Basically, it’s like this – more often than not, bands on a wet and windy Tuesday evening usually end up playing to other bands and their girlfriends. It is easy to become disheartened by that. It is also necessary for any town or city to have a vibrant scene.
“You can have all the best bands in the world in one place but they are nothing without an audience. I get really annoyed when I hear people whining about the lack of a scene in their city, especially in Leicester.
“They are happy to pay £50 plus for a stadium radio band, but neglect the free and cheap gigs in venues really close to them – and like us, there are some brilliant bands out there. So if you are reading this on a wet and windy Tuesday evening, get off your couch, get your coat and head to your nearest venue.
“The band you see there tonight might just be the stadium band you’ll be gagging for next year.”
Are you currently holding down other jobs? If so, what are they, and would you recommend them to other aspiring artists in need of cash?
“Haha. Not holding down other jobs so much as holding down a whole career – I am a schoolteacher, teaching 11-18 year olds at a comprehensive in Northamptonshire.
”I’ll be honest, the money is pretty good which allows me to be able to buy decent gear and pay for studio time, and the holidays are great for band plus there is no night or weekend work!
”Graham our other guitarist is a self-employed guitar teacher, David is a student and Jim is looking for work as I write. I guess a major advantage is that we have a lot of fans from the school, as they don’t get many rock star teachers so it’s a bit of a novelty.”
You’re on top of a soapbox, telling everyone where you aspire to be in five years time. Where do you aim to be, and what’s your mission statement?
“Five years… Well, I want to have sold more than 86 copies of the single, that’s for sure. At the risk of sounding sentimental, I hope we are in a different place; I hope we have evolved to write material that reflects the changes in our lives.
“As we mature, the music should too… not old though! I am not ready for easy listening, that’s not what I mean. I just want to still be having a lot fun, feeling creative and making a lot of noise.”
For a bonus point – tell us a joke! You don’t have to, but if you feel the urge…
“A horse walks into a bar….”
