In no more than 25 words, explain what makes you different to what’s out there already…
“I’m about vintage croons and old school storytelling; I’m about live performance, a rustic acoustic sound and intimate warm delivery.”
It’s a wet and windy Tuesday evening in February and you’re on tour. Why should people venture out to come see you?
“Because coming to see me live is your favourite slippers, a crackling fire, someone to snuggle up to… a good laugh and a story told well.”
Are you currently holding down other jobs? If so, what are they, and would you recommend them to other aspiring artists in need of cash?
“Yup. I’m also a vocal coach for my bread and butter…and my sins. I teach people to sing and give the odd songwriting and vocal workshop. I teach in three different schools and have some private students. For sure, it’s a good thing to do if you’re a musician. It keeps me in good nick and I get to pass something on and also get some inspiration from my students. And when they don’t turn up, I write songs. Poifec! Takes you out of your own head. With a hangover it’s hell on earth.”
You’re on top of a soapbox, telling everyone where you aspire to be in five years time. Where do you aim to be, and what’s your mission statement?
“I’ve seen a house on a hill, piano that faces the sea. My music plays on a radio, and there’s time, for keeping time free.” My Tomorrow, M.Barber
For a bonus point – tell us a joke! You don’t have to, but if you feel the urge…
“There are two nuns driving along in a car, Mother Superior at the wheel. The devil lands on the bonnet. The Mother Superior turns to the junior nun and says ‘Quickly Mary, show him your cross.’ The young nun leans out of the car window and screams at the devil, ‘Get the hell off my fucking bonnet!’”
