Airbourne
Runnin' Wild

Shit, this is great!

Airbourne’s Runnin Wild manages to encapsulate that very phrase. The same phrase that is bound to remind you of any hedonistic pleasure that you may have experienced – from sex, to drugs - even rock and roll itself.

That’s right – Airbourne take the rock and roll rhythm and skullfuck it up to eleven!

They may not be re-inventing the wheel as such – it’s almost like playing ‘spot the AC/DC tune’ throughout – but rock and roll ain’t noise pollution, after all. Joel O’Keeffe’s voice is a hoarse Brian Johnson notched down a peg or two, and it works rather well.

The track is straight up headbanging and fist pumping from start to finish. It’s difficult to restrain yourself from dusting down the air guitar/drums/bass/mic/all of the above for at least five seconds, especially when the Andrew W.K. friendly “Hey!Hey!Hey!” chant thumps in at the end of the chorus.

The supersize riffs cannon the song along like a speeding 18-wheeler that begs you to kick it up a little louder and unleash the rebel inside of you, whilst tempting you into putting a tie around your head and gurning like a loon.

Surprisingly, there’s minimal guitar solo action but this track is all about straight-up thrills and spills. It’s big, dumb and fun, and when it makes you grin this much – who cares?
