BC Camplight
Suffer For Two

It’s almost tempting to link straight to the previous review of BC Camplight on Bandidge with his latest single.

In case you missed it, Lord, I’ve Been On Fire was given a negative review due to its insistence on being incredibly identical in all three songs available to listen to on the single release. The sound was reminiscent other quirky individuals such as The Feeling and The Hoosiers, and that was as good as it got.

To be fair to Brian Christinzio, the song is sweet, with added strings giving it a sonic boost over the oft-used piano that makes it sound aptly camp. The arrangement of the musical accompaniments and backing vocals is well placed and thought out, but it’s unequivocally letdown by the unimaginative use of both rhythm and beat by Christinzio.

The same skipping, off-time drum beat as seen on previous B-Side The Hip And The Homeless is there, which means that quirky musical additions in the breaks between lines just doesn’t intrigue anymore. In fact, it’s terribly annoying.

It goes in a similar vein for the piano too, with carbon copy repetition of note style and performance leaving you feeling incredibly shortchanged. The female accompaniment on backing vocals that wilts along behind Brian’s falsetto workings is nice to hear, but overall it’s hard to shake that feeling of being there once too many times before.

Must try harder.
