It’s got to be hard for any band to get their noses through the tiny gaps in the giant, indie-dreamland doorway.
For Boy Kill Boy, however, it’s a walk through a beautiful park.
Promises may lack the huge whirlwind force seen with previous single Suzie, but BKB make up for it with this new release and their army of loyal fans.
Promises is a little too clean cut, and almost sounds as though Boy Kill Boyhave gone around to see all of their favourite indie scenesters and asked for their approval.
In fairness, though, the answer should be a resounding yes. It’s just that if you listen clearly you can hear evidence of many of your favourite bands - the opening sounds almost identical to that of Dirty Pretty Things’ Bang Bang You’re Dead.
The switch in sound has turned a corner however. It’s certainly a more grown up sound to that seen on the debut album Civilian, and you find that you are able to understand what they are saying this time.
If Promises is anything to go by, Boy Kill Boy have polished off the music from their first album and have now settled on what is undoubtedly a cleaner finish. The true sign, though, will be the awkward second release. Fingers crossed.
