!!! - or Chk Chk Chk as they are commonly referred to - are a band crying out for the British music scene to finally pay them some attention.
After a stadium tour supporting world renowned funk rockers Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and with two sublime albums tucked securely under their belts, !!! certainly have a lot of well deserved hype surrounding their obscure moniker.
Yadnus is taken from their latest release Myth Takes and with no use of hyperbole… it’s astonishingly good. From the tribal inspired drum intro into the wah-wah drenched guitar, you can almost picture snake-hipped frontman Nic Offer strutting around on stage.
The breathtakingly polyphonic soundtrack this octet create is reminiscent of Primal Scream in their heyday, with a voice that odes to Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.
On top of this auditory bonanza, Yadnus is presented with a plethora of extras; dance remixes of two other tracks from Myth Take, Heart of Hearts and Must Be the Moon, as well as a further “Roadhouse mix” of Yadnus.
And yet, regardless of how out-of-this-world these tracks appear to be on the surface, it all seems a little superfluous.
Two original tracks would be more than enough to satisfy even the greediest buyer. The two versions of Heart of Hearts, for example, just seem like padding that isn’t required.
With tracks like Yadnus , don’t be surprised if Chk Chk Chk, or Uh Uh Uh, or Bam Bam Bam, or whatever you feel like calling them are a household name by Christmas.
