Is electro making a comeback in a big way?

Since it’s entrance into a metal filled music world in the early 80’s, it’s been far from mainstream but has always remained on our scope as the cooler version of its sidekick genre of hip hop.

But now electro is due for a triumphant return to our ears with many new bands forming and creating different forms of electro by mixing with other genres. Digitalism is one of these bands.

Digitalism consists of German DJ’s Jens Moelle and Ismail Tuefekci, and their big synths and drum machines. They formed in 2004, releasing three singles to date with Pogo being their latest offering.

Right from the start, Pogo hits you with its infectiously rhythmic synth and dance combination sounding very similar to Daft Punk, before the bass and lyrics chime in sounding like some indie/electro/pop fight between Hot Hot Heat and Goldfrapp, making you want to tap your invisible snare drum until the very end.

With its repetitive and unconventional electro lyrics, make this fourth single from Digitalism a great example of what classic electro should sound like: upbeat and constantly moving to a beat in your ears. They also show they’re moving forward in the genre with this song by seemingly combining influences from other genres such as indie.

With a debut album recently released, we should be expecting much more from this exciting band as electro makes its welcome return to our ears!
