Every so often, a group will come along that at first glimpse seem to be more bonkers than a hamster stuck in a condom, but will slowly show themselves to be made of the purest quality.
Ladies and Gents, I introduce to you the Hearts Revolution.
Choose Your Own Adventure starts with what can only be described as Aphex Twin digitalising the noise you make when you get an itch in the middle of your head, and then try and hum away with your tongue. Layer up some Japanese that tells you to get up and dance, and you’ve already got radio unfriendly genius on your plate.
The Aphex Twin distortion continues over Lo’s voice, as she resembles the demented spawn from Come To Daddy whilst a simple rave beat gets slapped in-between. It’s simple, but contains an unhinged quality that many lack. The DIY attitude resembles Be Your Own Pet, whilst also carrying the fearless attitude of The Chemical Brothers.
Domino Effect is the polar opposite. It’s smooth, sensual and recalls a deeply European vibe throughout. Easy likenesses to Air, Daft Punk, Royksopp are brazenly broadcast, but there’s a touch of Cornelius’ atmospherics glistening on the hazy, blessed-out tune too.
Prism Effect is the same essential beat, but with Cory Kennedy lending a vocal repertoire that only aids the thrill. Rounded off with some schoolchildren joining in with verses and a lyrical theme of disease, danger and fear, it’s a multi-faceted pendulum of comfort and crippling reality.
Hearts Revolution have tapped into the soul with this single. Not only does it resemble a gigantic rave session inside of Tron, but it also captures and soothes your spirit, if you’re willing to let them in.
Simply incredible…
