Shine On is the title track from the Aussie rockers second album and follows in a similar vein to the singles before it.
When Jet returned last year it seemed to go almost unnoticed by anyone outside of the music trade and their own fan base, but this is no reflection on the quality of their music, as the new single shows just that.
The song gets its edge from the marching band-like drums which follow lead singer Nic Cester’s vocals throughout and tell you that whilst this is a slower and more melodic song compared to their normal sound they are sticking to what they know best, and that is catchy rock music with pop vocals.
This is certainly a standout track on their latest album, just like similar sounding Look What You’ve Done was on their first album Get Born. However, don’t be fooled into thinking they haven’t got more to come. Unlike their Australian counterparts such as The Vines and Wolfmother, Jet are a band still heading for the mainstream British public.
Produced by underground legend Dave Sardy who has worked with artists such as Oasis, Johnny Cash and Rage Against the Machine, Shine On is a simple song made to sound massive, and boy does it work.
