Santogold
L.E.S Artistes

Santogold has been working her way into our lives for a lot longer than some may believe.

Not only did she appear on Mark Ronson’s Version LP as the vocal talent on The Jam cover Pretty Green, but she’s also been popping up in major video games and adverts on both sides of the Atlantic.

It’s not all that surprising. Her prominent tune Creator saw her being pitched somewhere between M.I.A and Ebony Bones, whilst being the only one of the three females to hail from the other side of the Atlantic – Philadelphia, to be precise.

L.E.S Artistes sees Santi White take the initial elements of Creator and more or less disregard every piece. Instead of big beats and primal female squeals, …Artistes lays on a refined, mid-tempo garage rock piece that has more in common with the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s than Don’t Fart With My Heart.

The electronic impulsions aren’t completely overridden though, as buzzes and melodies gently brush past in the background as the bass and drums take centre stage. The skeletal beat and brilliantly harmonic bass take the tune from a backroom demo to the forefront of every radio station producer in the country.

Try not to fight it for too long – Santogold truly is too good to resist.
